A 16-year-old in Philadelphia was shot Sunday night after allegedly attempting to rob a man with a toy gun. The incident took place on the 2200 block of Emerald Street at around 11 p.m. when the teenager, along with another suspect, approached a man and his girlfriend. One of the suspects pressed what appeared to be a firearm into the man’s back, demanding his wallet, keys, and other valuables. However, the man, who was legally armed, responded by opening fire, striking the 16-year-old in the leg.

Following a preliminary investigation, police discovered that the teenager’s weapon was actually a toy gun. “Having been pressed into the victim’s back, there would have been no way for them to know that,” explained Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace, according to FOX 29. The wounded teenager was taken to a hospital for treatment and remains in police custody. The man and his girlfriend were unharmed during the attempted robbery.

Philadelphia police are continuing their search for the second suspect involved in the incident. Fox News Digital has reached out to local authorities for further details.
