Letters from CBZ Management’s law firm revealed that officials knew weeks in advance about a Venezuelan gang forcibly taking control of Aurora apartment complexes, despite initially dismissing the claims as “diversionary tactics.” Aurora officials acknowledged the presence of Tren de Aragua gang members, with arrests tied to violent incidents at these complexes.
CBZ Management, operating properties in Colorado, reported the gang’s takeover to the Aurora Police and Colorado Attorney General’s office. They highlighted the gang’s control of three Aurora properties, and expressed concerns over the city’s ineffective response due to police limitations under a consent decree related to past misconduct.
The situation escalated as the city eventually acknowledged gang activity, including arrests of documented gang members. Aurora officials closed one complex over safety violations, evicting residents. Meanwhile, city leaders admitted the gang presence had caused a “nightmare situation” they are working to regain control of.
