Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson faced sharp criticism from an elderly black resident at a recent town hall over his migrant policies. The 80-year-old woman, who compared Johnson’s pro-migrant stance to the Jim Crow South, accused him of destroying the city’s black communities. She pointed to rising crime, prostitution, and the displacement of black residents due to the influx of migrants.

“You’ve brought all these people into the city, and it’s tearing apart the black community,” she said, blaming Johnson for rising taxes and worsening living conditions in Chicago’s Southside. The woman concluded her remarks by calling the mayor a “disgrace” for his policies.

This criticism mirrors broader discontent among black Chicagoans, who have started organizing against their own elected officials over the migrant crisis. Many are frustrated with the placement of taxpayer-funded migrant shelters in black neighborhoods and are considering a political shift, with some grassroots organizations vowing to “vote red”. Recent polling shows a significant decline in black voter support for Democrats, with Kamala Harris only receiving 63% of black voter support compared to Barack Obama’s 95%.
