O’Donnell said C-suite executives adopt ‘values of the moment’ to please special interest groups.
Republican congressional candidate Marty O’Donnell argues that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs stem from Marxism and aren’t genuinely supported by the executives who promote them. Formerly on the board of directors at Bungie, O’Donnell is now running for Congress in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. Speaking to Blaze News, O’Donnell shared that DEI and representation were not considerations during his time in the gaming industry.
O’Donnell criticized the “go woke, go broke” trend, asserting that DEI is a code for a Marxist worldview. He emphasized that terms like colonization and decolonization are irrelevant in the entertainment industry, where the focus should be on creating compelling stories and games.
He believes that DEI programs are often forcefully integrated into entertainment, leading to subpar products. Fans, he noted, reject these because the content isn’t engaging, not simply due to the DEI elements.
‘I honestly think a lot of these people are empty suits; I don’t think they have core values.’
Drawing from his experience with Bungie’s former parent company, Microsoft, O’Donnell highlighted the fear among executives of upsetting vocal special interest groups. He views the promotion of DEI by top executives as insincere, driven by a desire to avoid backlash rather than genuine belief.
O’Donnell criticized these executives as “empty suits” lacking core values, accusing them of adopting trendy values to protect their bottom line. He doubts the moral character of those running large companies, suggesting they follow trends rather than holding strong convictions.
He concluded that it will take time for executives to realize that DEI programs may not benefit their profits, as changes in corporate direction are slow unless directly influenced by financial impact.
