Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has repeatedly claimed he didn’t recall reviewing the 2020 New York State Department of Health report on COVID-related nursing home deaths, but newly revealed emails suggest otherwise. A June 2020 email from his assistant showed Cuomo personally edited the report to downplay the role of his administration in over 15,000 nursing home deaths, instead pointing to community spread among staff and visitors.

According to the New York Times, Cuomo’s assistant sent edits to senior staff, highlighting changes that shifted blame away from his policies. The New York Post reported that Cuomo’s edits were included in the final report. Families of COVID victims accused Cuomo of lying and called for his prosecution for misleading Congress. Cuomo’s spokesperson defended him, stating that his actions were consistent with Trump’s CDC policies.
