Texas police suspect street racing led to a crash that killed four out of five family members, with a teenage boy surviving after being thrown from the vehicle.
The crash occurred on Saturday at 8 p.m. on Beltline Road, where drivers in Dodge Chargers were racing. One of the vehicles hit a car carrying Jessie and Lorena Rosales, their 13-year-old daughter Stephanie, and 6-year-old Angel, all of whom died in the crash.
Witnesses described the scene as horrific, with the Rosales car flipping and catching fire.
“It’s devastating and very hurtful because people were trying to help, but they couldn’t get close,” said Yvette Acosta, who recorded the aftermath. “Hearing them and not being able to help is very hurtful.”
Police arrested 22-year-old Anthony Morales, the suspected driver who fled, and identified 20-year-old Jaime Mesa as the driver who crashed into the family. Mesa faces four counts of manslaughter, and both drivers face charges of racing causing death and bodily injury.
Acosta mentioned frequent street racing on Beltline Road and hopes this tragedy prompts action against such dangers.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for 16-year-old Anthony Rosales, who was seriously injured.
KDFW-TV published a report with video and photos from the accident scene.
