A savvy FedEx driver in Hialeah, Florida, foiled a porch pirate’s attempt to steal packages containing iPhones last week. The incident was captured on the homeowner’s doorbell camera, showing a male approaching the driver and claiming to be the homeowner, according to WPLG-TV.
When asked to prove his identity, the male hesitated. As the driver pulled out his phone, presumably to take a photo or video, the would-be thief turned and walked away. The driver followed him down the driveway, capturing images of the man’s red Hyundai and license plate before alerting the real homeowner, who was watching remotely.
Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez confirmed the FedEx driver’s quick thinking helped authorities gather crucial information about the suspect. WTVJ-TV reported the homeowner, identified as Anthony, praised the driver, saying he knew the family well and had acted decisively to stop the theft.
Police are investigating whether the suspect is linked to other package thefts in the area.
