A food truck owner in Niagara Falls, New York, was arrested after allegedly setting a woman on fire over theft accusations.
Police arrested 38-year-old Barinder Singh after witnesses heard him arguing with a 48-year-old woman at his Indian Fusion food truck. Responding to a call at 1:45 p.m., police found the woman with severe burns near the intersection of 7th and Niagara Street. She was rushed to Erie County Medical Center in critical condition with third-degree burns.
A witness initially mistook the burning woman for a garbage tote on fire. Police obtained permission to search Singh’s phone, discovering surveillance videos capturing the incident. In the videos, Singh can be heard threatening to kill the woman and accusing her of theft.
Due to burn injuries to her throat, the victim had to be intubated. Singh was questioned and charged with assault, later released without bail. A judge issued a protective order for the victim.
