Two Venezuelan men, Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, are charged with the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Texas.

Houston Police arrested Martinez and Ramos on Thursday, accusing them of causing Jocelyn’s death and leaving her in a creek. Questions about their entry into the U.S. were referred to the Department of Homeland Security.

Jocelyn snuck out of her apartment on June 16 after her mother fell asleep. Surveillance footage from a 7/11 convenience store captured her with Martinez and Ramos. Police say the trio went to a nearby bridge where Martinez and Ramos allegedly raped and strangled Jocelyn, leaving her body in the creek.

Around 6:00 a.m., a woman reported seeing a body in the creek. Police responded and found Jocelyn’s body. Her mother, Alexis Nungaray, discovered her daughter was missing and tracked her cell phone to the creek, where she encountered police and learned of Jocelyn’s death.

Family friends have set up a GoFundMe page for Jocelyn’s family. Houston Mayor John Whitmire expressed his desire for Martinez and Ramos to be held without bail until their trial. Both suspects remain in police custody.
