An illegal alien from Mexico, deported 16 times, is accused of killing a 64-year-old man from Bailey, Colorado, in a vehicle crash.
Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, a 47-year-old illegal alien, has been charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless driving, and driving without a commercial driver’s license in connection to Scott Miller’s death.
The Colorado State Patrol reported Cruz-Mendoza was driving a semi-truck for Monique Trucking on Highway 285 near Conifer, Colorado. The vehicle veered off the road, spilling its load onto five vehicles. Miller, in one of those vehicles, died at the scene. Another driver suffered serious injuries and is recovering in a hospital.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed to KUSA-TV Denver that Cruz-Mendoza has been deported from the U.S. 16 times over the past two decades. His first deportation occurred in May 2002 after an arrest in Oregon.
ICE has placed a detainer on Cruz-Mendoza, requesting custody if he is released from police custody in Jefferson County, Colorado.
