Two girls, aged 9 and 11, were wounded by gunfire while playing at Hilltop Playground in Brownsville, Brooklyn on Monday night. The shooting occurred when two gunmen, targeting someone else, inadvertently hit the children.

The 11-year-old was struck in the back, and the 9-year-old was shot in the right leg just after 9 p.m. Both girls were rushed to Brookdale Hospital by private transport and are in stable condition.

Assistant Chief Scott Henderson praised the medical team at Brookdale Hospital, noting the girls were conscious and alert during treatment.

Police found two types of shell casings at the scene, suggesting two shooters were involved. The gunmen fired in the same direction, likely aiming at an unknown target, while the girls were unintended victims.

The NYPD is probing a possible gang link but hasn’t determined a motive. Sources say the shooters were on scooters. No arrests have been made.
