Jack Black’s bandmate in Tenacious D, Kyle Gass, apologized for his inappropriate comment during a concert in Sydney, saying “don’t miss Trump next time” following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Black expressed being “blindsided” by Gass’s comment and canceled the Tenacious D tour, putting all future plans on hold. Gass admitted his remark was “highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake” and stated he does not condone violence. Following the incident, the Greene Talent agency dropped Gass, Variety reported.
During the Sydney concert, Black sang “Happy Birthday” to Gass, who then said, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” before blowing out the candles, resulting in mixed reactions from the audience. Despite some laughter, many fans and online commenters condemned the statement, with some even calling for the band’s deportation.
Tenacious D had planned additional concerts in Australia and New Zealand and a U.S. tour in October to support Rock the Vote, but these plans are now uncertain due to the controversy.
