During the presidential debate, Kamala Harris stated that the Trump administration had one of the highest trade deficits in U.S. history. However, this claim is false.
The trade deficit reached about $653 billion in Trump’s last year, partially due to reduced global demand and the U.S. economy’s faster recovery. Still, this figure was lower than levels seen under President George W. Bush or the Biden-Harris administration. In fact, the trade deficit under Biden-Harris has consistently been higher than it was during Trump’s term.
