Last week, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit voiced his opposition to men competing in women’s sports, and since then, no one at ESPN has addressed his comments.

In his 29-year tenure at ESPN, Herbstreit said he has never been told what to say or warned about his opinions, emphasizing this on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast.

Herbstreit’s remarks came after Sam Ponder and Robert Griffin III were fired, leading to speculation that ESPN may have let Ponder go due to her critical stance on trans athletes. However, Herbstreit insisted he hasn’t faced any pushback for his views, despite the controversy surrounding Ponder’s dismissal.

In an interview with Dan Dakich, Herbstreit expressed frustration with the country’s divisiveness and the attacks he faced on social media. He declared that he no longer cares about the backlash, highlighting a double standard where traditional Christian views are often targeted.

Despite the speculation, ESPN’s firings of Ponder and Griffin III were officially attributed to financial reasons, not their opinions. Herbstreit’s case suggests that disagreement with the network’s policies doesn’t automatically lead to consequences.
