A Las Vegas homeowner fatally shot a man attempting to break windows and enter the home early Thursday morning, leaving the normally peaceful neighborhood in shock, KLAS-TV reported.

Jennifer Sauberan, a longtime resident near Torrey Pines Drive and Flamingo Drive, expressed disbelief over the incident, noting that nothing like this had ever happened in her decades living there. “It could have been my house,” she remarked, reflecting on the close call.

Las Vegas police received a 911 call from the homeowner around 7:40 a.m., reporting a strange man breaking windows and attempting to enter the house. Despite being told to leave, the intruder acted irrationally and moved toward the front door. The homeowner then fired, hitting the man, who was later found in the driveway and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police Lt. Jason Johansson stated that the shooting had elements of self-defense, and charges against the homeowner are unlikely, though the Clark County District Attorney will make the final decision.

Residents are now more focused on safety, with some, like Sauberan, increasing security measures such as installing cameras and floodlights.

Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
