A Los Angeles homeowner opened fire on several alleged intruders Monday around 3 p.m., critically wounding one. NBC Los Angeles reported that three masked men tried to break into the home on Addison Street near Colfax Avenue, but the property owner stopped them.

FOX 11 noted there were “two to three” alleged intruders who broke into the home, leading to an altercation with the homeowner. The homeowner retrieved a handgun and shot one of the intruders, causing the others to flee.

Officers arrived to find the wounded 25-year-old suspect “conscious and breathing.” He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, searching for the suspects who fled.

LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz noted that burglaries have risen across Los Angeles. It remains uncertain if this home was specifically targeted.
