Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a law preventing schools from informing parents if their children are transitioning.

California Democrats and LGBT activists have intensified efforts to separate parents from their children. Alvin Lui, president of the parental rights group Courage Is a Habit, criticized the state’s long-standing policy of keeping parents unaware of their children’s gender dysphoria and transitions. Despite some districts like Chino Valley Unified under Sonja Shaw adopting policies to inform parents, California Attorney General Rob Bonta took legal action against them. Newsom’s new law, Assembly Bill 1955, prohibits any such transparency.

Lui, who relocated his family due to California’s radical policies, stated, “AB 1955 was passed to discourage parents and teachers who still respect parental rights.” The law, introduced by Assemblyman Christopher Ward, prevents schools from disclosing any information about a student’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression without the student’s consent.

Contrary to Newsom’s office’s portrayal, educators must now keep parents uninformed about their child’s gender confusion, connecting children with pro-transition counselors and resources. Elon Musk has cited AB 1955 as a reason for moving his companies out of California. Assemblyman Ward claimed the law protects LGBTQ+ youth from forced outings by school districts.

Lui likened the situation to communism, stating, “There can be ZERO dissent. The children must be the state’s at all costs.”

Journalist Michael Shellenberger criticized the law, warning it makes children vulnerable to medical abuse and is based on pseudoscience. Despite evidence suggesting gender-affirming care is not beneficial, California Democrats ignored these findings.

The law’s proponents, like Susan Eggman, argue it ensures school safety and support for all children. Opponents, like Shellenberger and Jonathan Keller of the California Family Council, argue it infringes on parental rights and endangers children. Assemblyman Bill Essayli, who failed to pass a parental notification bill, called AB 1955 “immoral and unconstitutional” and plans to challenge it in court.

The Liberty Justice Center has already filed a lawsuit against AB 1955 on behalf of the Chino Valley Unified School District and concerned parents. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and 15 other attorneys general have asked the Supreme Court to address schools’ covert transitioning policies.

Human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali condemned the law, urging Americans to reconsider their support for California and the Democratic Party. Lui stressed that this issue extends beyond California, with schools nationwide keeping parents in the dark about their children’s gender transitions.
