A Salem, Massachusetts teacher, Darren Benedick, faces allegations of child exploitation. Prosecutors reported that the 42-year-old physical education and health teacher at Salem Academy Charter School was arrested in a sting operation and arraigned in Newburyport District Court on charges of child enticement and dissemination of harmful matter to minors.

Benedick allegedly planned to meet a supposed 14-year-old girl, who was actually an undercover officer with the Newbury Police Department monitoring a “teens-only” chat room. Prosecutors claim Benedick engaged in explicit online conversations, sent an obscene image, and described intended sexual acts to the officer. He was arrested on July 3 upon arriving for the arranged encounter.

A judge set Benedick’s bail at $5,000, with conditions including GPS monitoring, home confinement, and no contact with children. Salem Academy Charter School placed Benedick on administrative leave immediately after his arrest.
