Two juveniles, aged 13 and 14, were arrested in New York City after the brutal, broad-daylight beating of a 62-year-old man on Staten Island last month, during which the victim lost a tooth. The NYPD announced the arrests, and the teens have been charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury, according to the Staten Island Advance.

The attack occurred on July 15 around 6:20 p.m. Surveillance video shows a group of nine males following and antagonizing the victim as he walked on a sidewalk. The group chased the man, eventually shoving him to the ground, where he was punched and kicked, leading to injuries including a lost tooth and minor cuts. The victim was treated at a hospital, and Good Samaritans intervened to stop the assault.

The attack has left the victim with about $5,000 in medical expenses, according to his family, as reported by the Staten Island Advance. Borough President Vito Fossella condemned the violence, stressing that innocent people should not be subjected to such attacks, noting the victim was simply “minding his business” on a summer evening when he was surrounded and assaulted. Fossella emphasized that the attack could have happened to anyone, highlighting the need for greater safety in the community.
