A 66-year-old man, identified only as Bernie, was brutally attacked and robbed by a group of masked youths in Baltimore on Thursday night. Surveillance footage captured the moment when the attackers—armed with a gun—surrounded him and knocked him unconscious. The victim, on his way home near Patterson Park, recounted to WBFF-TV how the assailants quietly approached, and after he attempted to flee, they chased him down. One suspect stuck a gun in his face and demanded, “I want everything.”
The video shows three attackers stomping and punching Bernie, leaving him with a black eye and seven stitches. Baltimore Police later arrested two suspects: 18-year-old Montaz Bailey, charged with attempted first-degree murder, and a 15-year-old male, both of whom had prior arrests. Police recovered a handgun and the stolen property. However, while Bailey was processed, the 15-year-old was released to a guardian.
Bernie criticized the justice system, pointing out the lack of accountability, as many young offenders quickly return to the streets. He expressed frustration, saying, “There’s no consequences—what’s to stop you?” Baltimore officials echoed his concerns. Police Commissioner Richard Worley called for greater action to address youth crime, and Mayor Brandon M. Scott urged systemic reforms, lamenting the pattern of re-arresting the same young offenders.
Bernie warned that unless changes are made soon, such incidents may become more widespread: “You better do it fast before it hits your house next.”
