White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed concerns raised by Fox News’ Peter Doocy regarding data showing that 13,000 illegal immigrants convicted of murder are living in the U.S. Jean-Pierre dismissed the numbers as a “false representation of the data,” claiming that they had been fact-checked and debunked by multiple outlets. When Doocy pressed for clarification, Jean-Pierre emphasized the need to avoid confusing or misleading the public.
Recently released data shared with Republican lawmakers revealed that 425,431 noncitizens in the U.S. have criminal convictions, including 13,099 convicted of homicide, and many others with charges for assault, burglary, drug crimes, and sexual assault. Jean-Pierre pointed out that deportations and removals have been higher under the current administration compared to previous years.
The Department of Homeland Security responded to the data, clarifying that it includes individuals who entered the U.S. over the past 40 years, many of whom are currently in custody or under other law enforcement jurisdictions.
