CBS News host Margaret Brennan expressed surprise on “Face the Nation” at a poll showing that 62% of registered voters support deporting all illegal immigrants.

“President Biden has deported more people in the past year than any year since 2010,” Brennan noted, questioning the practicality and legality of mass deportations and the lack of resources for such an effort.

The CBS News/YouGov poll conducted from June 5-7 revealed that while most supporters of former President Trump back the deportation effort, some Democrats also favor it. CBS’ director of elections and surveys, Anthony Salvanto, explained that public sentiment reflects broad dissatisfaction with the current immigration system.

Brennan highlighted that Americans generally want the government to “do something” about the issue. Trump has proposed using the National Guard to deport illegal immigrants, aiming for “the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

Biden’s recent executive actions temporarily halt asylum claims for migrants crossing illegally. A presidential proclamation will suspend non-citizen entry at the southern border when daily encounters exceed 2,500 over seven days, remaining in effect until the average drops below 1,500 for a week. This aims to expedite the removal of individuals without legal status.
